Chorley,Preston & One in Blackpool Crawl 29th July 1988

The main pub crawl was to be in Chorley as we had already done three pub crawls in Preston picking up most in the town centre,so we would be doing pubs that are away from the middle of Preston for our evening crawl.
It was a train from Blackpool after our breakfast and onto Preston for a change of train to Chorley,we arrived just before 11am so had time to look round and see what pubs were there to do.

This was a great day out pub crawling in two towns and ending up in Blackpool where we were staying for the week.
Of the 28 pubs we did only four were keg pubs so not too bad.

I know Preston is now a City but it was a Town when we did the pub crawl there.

The next pub crawl may be a new one from 2015,but i have loads of pub crawls to add so not sure what to do next

  1. Thanks for posting Alan. Interesting to see how many pubs there were in Chorley, a place I like a lot. Most of those names unfamiliar to me, so guess a few have closed.

I'm looking forward to your St Neots post !

    2. Yes i love Bristol my third crawl there this year and i did a crawl there with the wife a few years back,i did do some good pubs but my aim was to do pubs in St Pauls but i found many closed down and the weather was pretty bad with very heavy rain so i altered the crawl after a short while.
I ended up doing Romford on my London crawl, quite down at heel and prices were the same very low for London, but i still enjoyed the crawl and did visit all but two pubs in the town,i found a few shut down and some did not open.

  3. I've just come across your blog Alan and it's a great read...living in Chorley and having a keen interest in Chorley pubs myself it was fabulous to see a snapshot of the pub scene here back in 1988. As one would expect some have since closed, the Borough Arms, Cotton Tree, Gossips and Shepherd's Arms but the rest are still going strong and with the addition of 8 or 9 new micropubs over the last few years cask ale is very much back in vogue. Thanks for the trip down Memory Lane!
